First things first. There is some dispute as to whether Bradley Wright-Phillips recorded his first hat-trick last night.

The club have confirmed this morning that the striker will be credited with has disputed third goal, so well done to him.

The B2net is one of the better new stadiums, it has the feel of a proper football ground. The lowish roofs did lead to a number of balls being kicked out of the stadium though.

Powell, wisely, kept faith with the team that beat Stevenage though Darel Russell replaced Bradley Pritchard on the bench.

Charlton were clearly the better side in the opening period and created one or two half chances before taking the lead just before the interval. Dogged work by Chris Solly on the right, led to him feeding the ball to Danny Green inside the area.

Green hit a shot which crashed down off the underside of the bar for Wright-Phillips to touch in from close range.

The Addicks attacked the goal housing their vocal fans after the break. Three goals in a ten minute purple patch ended the game as a contest.

After 56 minutes Solly crossed from the right and Johnnie Jackson, on the edge of the area, hit a shot into the ground. The ball spun up and Wright-Phillips was left clear as the Chesterfield defence came out, vainly appealing that the striker was offside. He wasn’t, and he had the simple task os steering the ball to Tommy Lee’s right to double the visitors’ advantage.

Two minutes later, Jackson did score. Another accurate cross from Solly gave the skopper the opportunity to sidefoot home with his right foot.

The disputed goal came after 66 minutes. Another cross from the right, this time from Green, saw Wright-Phillips and Neal Trotman stretch for the ball, which again went into the right hand corner of Lee’s goal.

It was another superb second half performance from the Addicks who could have increased their lead. The one concern was seeing Michael Morrison have his leg encased in ice packs in the dug out after being replaced by Leon Cort late on.

So Charlton stretched their lead at the top of the table to thirteen points, things could hardly get better for their fans could they? Well, actually they could and they did. The Chesterfield catering staff were handing out free pies and sausage rolls to the travelling fans as they left the stadium!
